I am an environmental attorney, but I don’t practice now — exploring the artistic side of my nature. However, I’m very proud of the work I have done in this field and perhaps will find time to do it again someday. It is a big part of my heart and my history.

In Austin, Texas, I worked for the law firm, Henry, Lowerre, Johnson, Hess and Frederick. While there I helped represent the Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter to stop a coal strip mine near the Rio Grande River and to lobby the Texas legislature to protect the mountain lion in Texas. I helped represent Sierra Blanca Legal Defense Fund to stop a radioactive waste site from going in near the Rio Grande river. I organized a National Low-Level Radioactive Waste Conference for experts around the country to bring all their knowledge and resources together and strategize how to stop the various unsafe dumps proposed around the country. And I worked on other cases from toxic waste to highway construction to factory farming.

I moved to Los Angeles to help run an environmental non-profit organization called Americans For A Safe Future. We were the political arm of a coalition of groups aimed at stopping the low-level radioactive waste dump proposed for Ward Valley, CA — just a few miles from the Colorado River. While at ASF I produced two high-profile fundraising events and took charge of development. We helped stop the dump!
